  1. This device is pretty straight forward.  Just make sure that program changes are enabled in the MIDI Global Page.  The M3R boots up in Combi mode and unfortunately there is no way to switch from Combi to Program via sysex.  So if you want to switch modes, you'll have to do so from the front panel of the M3R. Set the Global MIDI Channel to 9.  This will allow you to send program changes on Channel 9 that will only affect the combi.  It should automatically go to combi 29, Kit1+MIDI. This combi is setup for sequencing.  You will be free to send program changes on 1-8 to change the sounds within the combi.
